AJ Sarell
Meet the multi-hyphenate creative AJ Sarell.
In the 1990’s she began her artist journey by scribbling wherever she could: walls, paper, the tv screen, in books, on toys, and anywhere else that could hold paint or ink.
Her first business was started the summer she graduated high school in 2012. She began by selling paintings, hair bows, and hand made lip balms. That fall, she went away to Saint-Mary-of-the-Woods College and began her studies in Biology. During her time at “the Woods” she developed her business skills and began selling her products at maker markets. In her senior year, a deep grief befell her after a huge loss and she began writing to cope with the pain. After lots of effort honing her writing skills, she self-published her first children’s book titled Itty Bitty the Kitty.
In the decade since Itty Bitty the Kitty was written, she has continued to grow as a writer through other writing projects, drafted stories that are not yet published, and going back to school for Paralegal Studies. She also has spent considerable time practicing her skills in different art mediums such as ceramics, drawing, painting, sewing, and embroidery.
She believes that any skill worth having requires practice, patience, and a willingness to be bad at something in order to get good at that something.
